4 easy tailgate recipes ready for game day

(BPT) – Football season is here — which means it’s time to start planning for your game day gatherings. And while everyone may be rooting for different teams, there’s one thing to agree on: game day isn’t complete without delicious tailgate treats.

Even if you don’t love watching the game, you can still get excited about time with friends, family and good food. Try something new with these four easy recipes that aim to please.

1. Pulled BBQ Chicken Rolls

If you’re looking for fast and easy, set and forget this recipe by Mackenzie Biehl in your slow cooker. Simply cook the chicken, mix all the ingredients, assemble the sandwiches and serve.

Ingredients:

1.5 pounds boneless skinless chicken breast

1 can Dr Pepper

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 cup barbecue sauce

1 avocado, sliced

1 red onion

Mayo to taste

Siracha to taste

Hawaiian rolls

Process:

Add chicken, onion and garlic powder and Dr Pepper to the chicken and cook on high in a slow cooker for 3 hours or low for 6 hours. Once cooked, shred the chicken, and add barbecue sauce. Put back in the slow cooker for 20 minutes on low. Make sandwiches, adding mayo and siracha to taste, and serve.

2. Spicy Dr Pepper Barbecue Sauce

Barbecue sauce and Dr Pepper are the perfect pair in this spicy, multipurpose sauce. Make this recipe by Elizabeth An ahead of time and serve with your grilled favorites.

Ingredients:

12 ounces Dr Pepper

2 cups ketchup

1 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

1 teaspoon sea salt

1 teaspoon cayenne powder

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Optional: 1 teaspoon of smoked ghost pepper flakes

Process:

Combine all ingredients in a pot over medium heat. Reduce sauce until desired consistency (thick enough to cover a spoon without sliding right off). Adjust seasonings to taste.

3. Glazed Tofu Sliders

Ingredients:

14-ounce block extra firm tofu drained

1 can Dr Pepper

2 tablespoons gochujang paste

2 tablespoons hoisin sauce

2 tablespoons honey

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar

1 teaspoon finely grated ginger

1 clove garlic finely grated

Slider buns for serving

Process:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Slice tofu into rectangles. Whisk together all ingredients in medium pot on stove and bring to boil. Reduce heat and allow sauce to thicken. Brush glaze on all sides of tofu pieces and bake on a sheet pan for approximately 15 minutes. Place tofu on buns and top with your favorite coleslaw and remaining glaze if desired.

4. Dr Pepper Brownies

Don’t forget about dessert. This recipe by Shikha Singh puts a unique spin on traditional brownies with Dr Pepper and instant coffee to bring out the rich, chocolatey flavor.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup butter

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup brown sugar

3 large eggs

1/4 cup Dr Pepper

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon of instant coffee

1/3 cup cocoa powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

Process:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Add butter and chocolate chips to a microwave-safe mixing bowl and cook for 30 seconds, stir and microwave for another 30 seconds. Repeat if necessary. Add brown sugar and eggs and mix until combined. Stir in Dr Pepper. Add flour, cocoa powder, instant coffee, vanilla extract and salt. Stir until combined. Pour into a greased 9×9 baking pan. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, let stand for 5 minutes in the pan and then transfer to a cooling rack.
